Here we go again - it’s time to meet more of the Somo team! We’re heading over to the US and talking to Emily Buchanan, a Somo-er in the Charleston office (which was just recognized in Inc. magazine’s annual list of Best Workplaces in America for 2020!)

Emily joined us a year ago and has jumped right into Somo life. Her role as a QA Engineer means getting involved with every area of a project and being a core member of the team. Below, Emily tells us what project is exciting her at the minute, what Somo team intrigues her most, and what her party trick is (or isn’t!)

1. You’re a QA Engineer at Somo. What’s a typical day like for you? And what’s your favorite part?

As we are rapidly approaching the Volkswagen Group Reservation Platform (VGRP) launch, my typical day has consisted of meeting with teams across the project to review and triage defects, helping to ensure our MVP items are complete, and continuously regression testing throughout the day.

With QA, you sometimes tend to wear several hats. I enjoy that I can work closely on the product as an individual contributor and still have my ideas or suggestions make a positive contribution to help guide the project.

2. Which team would you like to swap places with for a day?

It would be fun to swap with the design team. I think it would be interesting to see first-hand how the entire design process flows from the beginning ideas and sketches, to what everyone sees as the completed final product.

3. Do you have a party trick or a secret talent?

Hmmm, maybe I should start using this time when we are unable to enjoy parties and start working on a party trick to debut... Somo H1/H2 2021 after party, watch out!
