“Connected athlete” MLS Audi Player Index

The Brief

Design and deliver a marketing showcase of the new Audi Player Index for Major League Soccer (MLS).

The Solution

This was the definition of Rapid, Actionable Innovation: from concept to design and engineering in just eight weeks. Teams located in both the US and UK enabled Somo to ‘follow the sun’ – a powerful advantage when production time is limited.
Somo developed 60 custom, 16x16 pixel, full-colour LED panels that were embedded within custom-built, branded soccer jerseys. The panels combined flexibility and comfort with the strength to absorb impact.

The Results:
The project went live at six events in San Jose and New York, with updates of data on each player, powered by Opta’s APIs, displayed in real-time on the jerseys of all the players in both teams.
